"The Simulated Meeting" Design
Analysis Component
Content Design
When the Meeting ends, the learner is asked to analyze the conversation
in terms of bias and procedural errors by selecting a statement from
the transcript, and selecting or bookmarking its relevant bibliographic
entries. While designed to initially show content for the specific
case, the user can access ALL bibliographic content from this portion
of the tool. Content components are:
- Commmittee Member users' parts
- Downloadable application
- Case information
- case summary (or unofficial account of career)
- candidate file
- member biographies
- cv
- letters of recommendation
- peer review report
- publications synopsis
- transcript from Simulated Meeting
- questions
- References
- ADEPT bibliography
- GaTech resources
- general comments
- specific comments
- topic list
- keyword list or any other lists by which users may sort
- List of bookmarked references
- Candidate user's parts (to come)
Interaction Design
When the user enters the Analysis screen, the transcript from the
meeting is displayed. The user may click any statement to see a brief
description of issues associated with that statement and a few
bibliographic references which the learner can review immediately or
bookmark for later reference. At the end of the analysis phase, the
learner can send this list of bookmarks to themselves for later
perusal.
The analysis phase is implemented in Director, Lingo, and HTML. As
necessary, external calls are made to send e-mail and bring up browsers
as requested by the user. Components of the Analysis portion of the
ADEPT downloadable tool are:
- Transcript column
- References column
- General commentary about the statement
- Relevant references from the bibliography
- Specific commentary about the reference
- List of bookmarked references
- "Library" containing access to all bibliographic and case content
Graphic Design
In assisting the user in locating any portion of the dialog for
analysis, a "thumbnail" of the transcript is displayed. Adjacent to
statements that the user selects, the relevant bibliographic
information is displayed. The user' mental model of commentary followed
by justification is supported by showing general commentary to the
statement, then following with a list of relevant references from the
bibliography, and specific comments about those references. The
transcript is located in the left-hand column, commentaries and
references are located on the right.
Storyboards of the Analysis portion
During the analysis, the user can bring up the "Resources" at any time.
While designed to initially show content for the specific case, the
user can access ALL bibliographic content from this portion of the
tool. By clicking on the specific reference in the right column,
the user is taken to the full bibliography of the tool, at the
point of the specific citation.
Components of the Resources are organized thus:
- Candidate's File (hanging file folder that contains data)
- career account(long version for non-simulated cases, short version for simulated cases)
- member biographies
- cv
- letters of recommendation
- peer review report
- publications synopsis
- transcript from Simulated Meeting or questions from non-simulated cases
- Bibliography (lists of returned items from a sort)
- General commentary to which the bibliographic entry is associated
- Specific commentary about the reference
- Sorted by user-defined methods:
- GaTech Resources (design)
- by case study
- by topic
- alphabetical
- List of bookmarked references
