Summary of design meeting and some ideas from the PTAC case studies subcommittee that immediately followed.
- I think the books might be used on a splash page or as a design element elsewhere (resources?).
- I think using one balloon is okay for space reasons. The speaker needs to be highlighted more (brighter colors?).
- I've separately sent a report on the cases subcommittee meeting.
- Notes on input tool for writers
The simplest way to do input for a multi-sequential story is to draw the
flowchart and identify each box with a unique letter and number combination.
Then, as you guys are already doing, set out to write the dialog in chunks that
match the flowchart boxes, with appropriate labels for each chunk.
I suggest:
A=Set up
B=Research
C=Teaching
D=Service
E=Ending
B-1, B-2, B-3 ... would all be chunks within the Research section.
I had a student who came up with a good EXCEL representation of a similar
structure: Muta Ali Mohammed, whose Masters Project is borrowable from Dawn. I
made a database-based web tool at MIT which is not currently on the web. But
you probably don't need EXCEL or a database or a special tool for now.
- Meeting went well, and, as anticipated, longer storylines need to
be added to each branch. Attached is an outline of what we discussed,
and the implications. Carol and subcommittee will work on this, and
choose the route that we will follow.
- We will still be working on the one story (Perez) until that comes to a completed version, before beginning other stories.
- Sketch ideas that we kicked around for accessing documentation
during the dialog meeting. Something along the lines of a pile of docs:
user clicks on a key word in the dialog to invoke the appropriate one
and view its details (?), or user can click on a particular doc in the
pile to view its details (?).
- Books will be removed
- Candidate summary will become one of the docs (and not persistent viewable thumbnail on sidebar)
- Sidebar options will not be available during exploration of a
case study, but user should still be aware of their existence so they
can reference later.
- Possibly, instead of one balloon for all text, three balloons
(each near respective speaker) will help show active speaker. I
recommend a modification of what we already have, because this new
3-balloon version will take up space without as much payoff. Space
could be better used for viewing details of docs.
- Future design issues:
- Bookmarking of reference material for user's future use.
- Feedback on the user's position in the dialog (based on attached file).
- Sound: where, when, type and how much.
