Screen shot of IBVS in action

The recent scientific achievement of sequencing the human genome has the biological sciences entering the realm of “Big Science.” DNA sequencing machines are responsible for the recent exponential growth in the total amount of sequenced genetic data available to scientists. With Big Science, then, has come Big Data. The new challenge is to build tools that enable exploration, discovery, and interactive analysis within these data.

The Integrated Interactive Bioinformatic Visualization System () allows the biological scientist to interactively explore, browse and annotate multiple datasets and create biological knowledge. By applying Computer Science’s gains in data visualization and human-computer interaction to the realm of Biological Science using principles of information design, will prove to be an invaluable tool in helping biologists understand the meaning and use of genetic structures.
